Founders in SheWorx are women who embody three core values. We call these the AAA Values: Ambition — We set big goals and push ourselves outside of our comfort zone. Action — We work around constraints and always find a way to get things done. Altruism — We give back to our communities and encourage the success of other women.
Meet Amanda, one of the many incredible founders attending the upcoming SheWorx100 Summit.
1. What does your company do?
My company iContract is an online platform for professional contractors in the sectors of Finance, Legal and Tech, that connects them with relevant contract opportunities that are posted by recruiters and hiring managers. iContract also fast-tracks recruiters and hiring managers’ contractor hiring processes and makes searching for appropriate candidates a faster and more efficient experience.
2. What impact are you making? What does this impact look like in 10 years?
We have made a huge impact so far with a very successful pre-launch period, with over 2,000 contractors pre-registering for the platform, and over 100 specialist recruitment agencies and hiring companies pre-registered and committed to posting live opportunities on a regular basis. These numbers are increasing daily as more people discover iContract and are looking for a better online experience in either their job or candidate search. By 2020, 50% of the UK workforce is predicted to be self-employed given the growing influence of the gig economy and on-demand economy, and more people looking to leave the traditional 9 to 5 model and take more control over their working lives. In 10 years time then, we expect iContract to have a tremendous impact on the job market with our platform being recognised as the go-to platform for contractors to find their next contract post, and a vital tool for recruiters to help streamline their candidate searches. With iContract expanding into more sectors for the future, and plans to expand into Germany, Netherlands and the US, an exciting future lies ahead for the platform.
3. How do you embody the SheWorx AAA Values of Ambition, Action, Altruism in your work and life?
In my work and life, I believe I have shown great ambition by spearheading the progression and development of iContract as its CEO. After a very successful stint working full time in investment banking, I made the courageous decision to leave this and start iContract as a platform and fund the initiative myself. Where I could have easily continued to have a successful and lucrative career in Finance, the challenge it held for me was nowhere as exciting as the journey I’ve been on as CEO of iContract. No day is ever the same and is action packed at the last; whether its collaborating with my Development and User Design team, pitching our platform to high level recruiters, or helping shape the marketing message and story of the iContract platform.
iContract has a great story that is altruism at its finest. Myself and a few friends were seeing a trend for flexible working, and having worked as contractors ourselves, we saw a gap in the market for a platform that could give a contractor more control of their work life and give them the type of opportunities they sought after. Contracting had given us the freedom and flexibility to better our lives and gain that entrepreneurial spirit; one of our partners who is a successful legal contractor now runs a successful Hawaiian burger chain in the UK, thanks to the opportunities that contracting allowed him. We want to replicate these stories and give other contractors, and even prospective contractors, the tool to achieve this. The benefits one can reap from contracting are fantastic and we want to give more people the chance to gain that positive work-life balance we all desire.
4. Why are you excited about the SheWorx100 London Summit? What is the best part about being in the SheWorx community?
I’m really excited about being at the SheWorx100 London Summit as it’s a chance to be surrounded and inspired by other like-minded female professionals who I can share my ideas and passions with. It serves as a platform to hopefully engage with and encourage younger female professionals and inspire them to do great things. The UK presents such opportunity for Start-Ups and it’s great to see an event that calls on the expertise of female entrepreneurs, something as a woman I am proud to see and want to see more of in years to come.
