Meet Carmen, one of the many incredible founders attending the upcoming SheWorx100 Summit.
1. What does your company do?
Caraa is a next-generation luxury fitness brand for millennial women living perpetually active lifestyles. Based in New York City, our product offerings include bags and accessories that bridge high fashion with performance features, designed to be worn inside and outside of the fitness studio.
2. What impact are you making? What does this impact look like in 10 years?
Caraa was founded to address major white space in the consumer market. Millennials are without a doubt the most active generation yet: 81 percent practice group fitness on a regular basis vs. 61 percent of their baby boomer parents. This overwhelming majority factors the location and timing of their fitness class around their daily routine. While there are significant number of active apparel brands to address this demand, the options for well made, versatile, and luxurious sports bags are practically nonexistent. We collected data across 12 major US metropolitan areas and saw that 86 percent of millennials who exercise daily carry separate bags for the studio/gym and office, and nearly 100% of them are in the market for a singular bag that can be used from morning until night, seamlessly transitioning between work, fitness, and social activities.
Modern consumers are spending less time at the “office” or happy hour drinks, instead focusing on office to fitness studio or office to social club. We do not see this trend diminishing in the near future or even in a decade. Urban living has recently led to a spike in homes away from homes of all kinds, be it a boutique Pilates class to a full-fledged fitness studio to a members-only social club. A new type of accessory is needed to accommodate more time being spent in transit for those who dwell in cities and have to pack smartly. In ten years we will be the platform that provides smart and essential accessories for this new lifestyle, for all of those homes on-the-go in between where you rest your head and do your work. For now, however, our starting point is always from the fitness studio.
3. Why are you excited about the Summit? What is the best part about being in the SheWorx community?
The opportunity to converge with 600 other female founders is something truly unique. I am excited not only to share my journey as an female Asian entrepreneur with other likeminded leaders, but also to have the opportunity to interact with strategic female investors. Being part of the SheWorx community means that I have gained an invaluable community and support system, a place where I can share experiences, challenges, and opportunities with likeminded individuals and we can be stronger together.
