SheWorx AAA Spotlight: Kate Hodsdon, Founder, Mile5

Meet Kate, one of the many incredible founders attending the upcoming SheWorx100 Summit.

1. What does your company do?

I wanted to build a business from the heart, one that actively empowers people to “feel good, do good”. By creating personalised shopping experiences, Mile5 gives customers the luxury of a personal shopping service delivered with convenience of online. Whatever your workout, whatever your need, Mile5 helps you look your best so you can feel your best, and just get out and do your best. Think of Mile5 as “StitchFix for Activewear”. 

2. What impact are you making? What does this impact look like in 10 years?

The impact I hope to make is a long lasting one. One that positively empowers people to shift towards ‘mindful luxury’. This focuses on positive-impact experiences - like being active - over buying for ownership alone. By personalising the shopping experience, I see Mile5 directly encouraging customers to be more active, by kitting them out with what they need, and raising their confidence by styling them to look awesome! In 10 years, I hope that all online shopping will use data and personalised experiences to encourage mindful consumption, and a “lifestyle first”, not “look first” mentality. 

3. How do you embody the SheWorx AAA Values of Ambition, Action, Altruism in your work and life? 

My recent pivot away from a luxury active marketplace and into mindful personalised styling is ambitious because it’s new and requires a mindset shift, and I am working to a tiny budget from my own pocket too! I received a no from one of London’s smartest marketplace investors which could have kicked me down, but it was the best gift ever. I retuned my intention and ambition quickly, and believe I can offer more meaning and value now than I could have previously. I try to check in on the intentions behind my actions - and readjust if I’m getting ego-centric vs service centric. This is something that my relationship with fellow SheWorx founders helps to foster and challenge. The altruistic side of Mile5 is baked into the very core of the ‘feel good, do good’ mission …. I hope! 

4. Why are you excited about the SheWorx100 London Summit? What is the best part about being in the SheWorx community?

SheWorx offers me a level of smart, strong and successful women who I know I can reach out to for advice and support at. any. time. That is the key for me in maintaining stamina. The summit is exciting because I know the energy in the room will be like rocket fuel and meeting investors face to face, makes such a difference in building relationships.
