“At a time when many women's networks are launching and trying to build as large a group as possible, SheWorx has a refreshing focus on quality of their network. Your network is only worth as much as the members who comprise it. That's why I joined Sheworx. I'm really motivated by the diverse, and equally talented members. Sheworx is a group focused on what you're building not just being a female.” - Roshni S.

FAQ

General expectations

Q: What are some qualities you look for in a City Director?

A: The SheWorx community is driven by three core values: Ambition, Action, Altruism. Here are how they are embodied in our City Directors:

  1. Ambition: You dream big: SheWorx was created by dreaming big. Our mentors represent the best of the industry and as such, Directors liaise with both the community of ambitious entrepreneurs as well as top VC Partners, Founders, and thought leaders.

  2. Action: You make things happen: Organizing a chapter involves many moving pieces. We’ve learned that although experience in the industry and event organization is a plus, it can’t make up for a willingness to get started, figure things out, and make it work.

  3. Altruism: You’re a connector and a giver: It takes a certain personality to successfully lead a volunteer team, keep sponsors happy, and celebrate local talent. This chapter won’t be about you. It will be about the fantastic people you get to bring together.

Q: How much time typically goes into being a SheWorx Director?

A: Directors must organize a minimum of one event/quarter to maintain their role. Our best directors organize one/month. One event typically takes 3-5 hours to organize. This number will be reduced as the Director develops a system for planning the events. We give you the tools to launch your city and become a thought leader, and want your SheWorx community to be additive to your life and schedule. It is ultimately up to you how many events you hold over the course of the year, but you can expect that as you become familiar with the process, it will become more efficient.

Q: What are the primary responsibilities of a SheWorx Director?

A: We empower you to become a community leader, and as a leader, your responsibility is to empower other female entrepreneurs, to be a strong role model and generous with connecting women to the resources and mentors that could help them in their journey. This means hosting regular events, being open to feedback, proactively reaching out to mentors and investors to engage with your chapter, and celebrating the successes of yourself and the other women in the community!

Q: What types of events can I host?

A: We have small (roundtables), medium (panels/workshops) and large (summits) events. You will receive training in hosting all of these in your SheWorx Director training.

Q: Are SheWorx events only open to people who identify as female?

A: SheWorx events give priority seats to women, but are open to anyone who wants to create a better ecosystem for female entrepreneurs.

Compensation

Q: How much money can I make as a SheWorx Director?

A: This is completely up to you! It depends on how often you decide to organize events, how many women you recruit as founding members, and finding local sponsors. At our top tier cities who do two small events per month, directors can make up to $3K/month. With larger summits, the opportunity is $20K+

Q: Are there any costs/fees associated with running a chapter?

A: SheWorx Director is a volunteer position, so we want SheWorx events to be opportunities for you to make some profit. While there may be typical event costs (food/drink/venue), we encourage you to minimize costs by finding local sponsors. Our best directors create events that have no costs at all! The only upfront cost is for your required community building and leadership training so we can provide you with the tools, training, and support to get your chapter off the ground and running smoothly!

About your chapter

Q: Can there be more than one SheWorx chapter per city?

A: No, there can only be one SheWorx chapter per city, but there can be co-directors. Cities with multiple directors collaborate and become a team that works together to empower their community, set a yearly schedule, and organize more events.

Q: Can I organize a large SheWorx Summit?

A: Yes, after doing at least four smaller SheWorx events, you may get approval to host a large summit.

Q: I live in a small city. Can I still start a chapter?

A: Yes as long as you believe there is a need for SheWorx in your city.

Running a chapter

Q: Do we have to get speakers approved by headquarters?

A: Initially, yes. We want to maintain a high caliber of mentors in our network.

Q: Are SheWorx breakfast mentors ever paid?

A: No, we do not pay our mentors or speakers, as we expect invited speakers to be committed to the mission of empowering female entrepreneurs.

Q: What sort of resources does SheWorx headquarters provide?

A: In the required community building and leadership training, each chapter will receive

  • Master class online training on how to become a strong, confident SheWorx community leader,

  • Templates and assets to launch and run your chapter

  • Marketing and exposure through SheWorx HQ

  • monthly director calls that will make planning events as seamless as possible for all SheWorx Directors.

Q: How long is the commitment for being a Director?

A: Our licenses are one year long and we’ll offer the Director the opportunity to renew their license at the end of the year.

Q: What happens if I’m a Director and I’d like to pass on the role to someone else?

A: We have an exit process to handle this. You must nominate someone you endorse to be the next Director.

Q: Can I lose my SheWorx Director license?

A: This is an unlikely occurrence but if the Director fails to live up to the expectations set in the partnership agreement, SheWorx reserves the right to find a new SheWorx Director for that community.

About the application process

Q: If I apply, how long until I hear from you?

A: We review interested candidates once a month so you can expect an update within a few weeks. Thanks for your patience.

Q: Are there more steps to the application process after I submit?

A: If it seems like a good fit, we will invite you to a SheWorx event or set up a call to learn more about you and your vision for the chapter.

Q: Is applying for a chapter first come first serve?

A: No, not necessarily. However, we do recommend that you get your application in as soon as you can. If we find a Director we really like, we’ll grant them the chapter.

Q: Can I reach out to potential sponsors, venues or speakers before applying?

A: Yes, we encourage you do. Committed sponsors, venues and speakers are a great way to strengthen your application. However, please be clear and explain that you do not yet officially represent SheWorx and are applying for Director
